Job summary

Manhattan Charter School for the Curious Minds, located on the Lower East Side of New York City, seeks a Physical Education (PE) / ICT Teacher for grades K–5. Qualifications

Physical Education (PE) / ICT Teacher

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated educator to serve as a Physical Education (PE) / ICT Teacher for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting physical fitness, wellness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits while creating an inclusive learning environment that supports students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs.

In addition to providing high-quality physical education instruction, the PE / ICT Teacher will support Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) responsibilities as assigned and collaborate with colleagues to ensure all students have meaningful access to instruction.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Education (PE)

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for students in grades K–5 that accommodate a range of abilities and interests.
• Teach students the fundamentals of various sports, movement activities, physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.
• Assess student performance and progress and provide constructive feedback and support for continued improvement.
• Organize and supervise extracurricular sports and fitness activities, including school competitions and events, as appropriate.
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate physical education with other subject areas and school-wide initiatives.
• Establish clear expectations, routines, and procedures that promote student engagement and positive behavior.
• Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment and ensure that physical education equipment is used appropriately, properly maintained, and safely stored.

Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT)

• When assigned to an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom, collaborate closely with the co-teacher to plan, deliver, and assess instruction that meets the needs of both general education students and students with IEPs.
• Share responsibility for classroom instruction, planning, assessment, and student outcomes with the co-teacher.
• Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations and modifications to support students with diverse learning needs.
• Collaborate in implementing and monitoring students’ IEP goals and required services.
• Maintain regular communication with the co-teacher, related service providers, and other members of the student support team.
• Use a variety of co-teaching models and instructional strategies to ensure all students have meaningful access to grade-level curriculum.

School & Professional Responsibilities

• Support school-wide responsibilities, including but not limited to arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, advisory, and intervention.
• Collaborate with teachers, school leadership, and student support staff to promote student achievement and well-being.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, common planning, and other school-wide activities as required.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Principal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Teaching certification/license in Physical Education preferred.
• Previous experience teaching physical education at the elementary or K–12 level.
• Strong knowledge of physical fitness principles, sports, movement, and wellness practices.
• Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs and collaborating with other educators.
• Ability to adapt and differentiate teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and student needs.
• Excellent classroom management, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
