Job description

Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism

Department of Recreation Administration offers a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration with five option areas: community and youth, special events and tourism, outdoor recreation, recreation therapy, and sport & entertainment facility management.

Position Summary

The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in recreation, tourism, outdoor recreation, special events, sport & entertainment facility management. Target courses include RA 117 (Special Events and Tourism) and RA 131 (Foundations of Special Events and Tourism) or other courses as needed.

Instructor Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members must comply with university and system‑wide policies. Duties include preparing, delivering, conducting, proctoring, and grading lectures, office hours, homework, quizzes, class projects, midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the indicated mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Compensation

Salary is paid monthly. For a Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual pay reflects the number of WTUs assigned.

Term and Availability

The pool is continuously open and is filled as enrollment and funding permit. Faculty may need to begin teaching on short notice. The pool remains available for two academic terms; candidates wishing to stay beyond that must reapply.

  • Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Recreation and Parks Administration or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level (e.g., prior teaching experience, evaluations).
  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
