Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Music
The School of Music offers a comprehensive range of programs, including concentrations in Music Education, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, and Jazz Studies. Performance specializations include voice, as well as instrumental areas such as wind, brass, string, percussion, and piano. The School of Music is recognized for its continued growth and serves a diverse student population from across California’s Central Valley region.
Position Summary
Studio Instructor for applied lessons needed. Additional courses may be assigned as needed to support students’ educational objectives, including Musicology, Music Education, and Music Theory. The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as Applied Faculty Lessons or other courses as needed.
Instructor Responsibilities
- Adhere to and implement university policies and system-wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
- Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and exams.
- Ensure all classes are offered and met as scheduled throughout the semester, in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional Appointment
Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association, which prioritizes tenure line faculty and ends with new lecturer appointees.
Compensation
Paid commensurate with qualifications and experience within the salary range placement for Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree ($5,507–$6,677 per month for full time, 15 WTUs). Salary adjustments are based on WTUs assigned per academic term.
Anticipated Semester
- Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in music or a closely related field, with emphasis in the area being considered or substantial related experience.
Experience
- For private studio teaching: Demonstrated high level of performance proficiency and active career as an accomplished instrumentalist or vocalist, with proven expertise as soloist and ensemble performer.
- For undergraduate/graduate courses: Ability to deliver structured, curriculum‑based instruction supporting student learning and academic development; maintain an active professional career with expertise in both solo and ensemble performance.
- Ability to effectively recruit and retain students.
- Maintain excellent relationships with public and private educators within the relevant service area.
- Commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in the area being considered.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level evidenced by prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
- A distinguished professional background and university teaching experience.

Additional Requirements
