Position Overview

The Department of Civil and Geomatics seeks graduate students asTeaching Associate applicants. Teaching Associates typically areresponsible for providing classroom instruction. Eligibility isdetermined by successful TA eligibility , department eligibility and adequatefunding. The department reserves the right to choose the most qualifiedcandidate for each position and to assign TAs to the courses thatare appropriate for the department program and curriculum in anygiven semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, coursesoffered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester tosemester can be made.

Anticipated Appointment Dates

This position is opened untilfilled. If you have applied and no other positions are available,you will be notified.

• Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026;
• Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

Hours/Units per week

Students can work up to 20-hours perweek;

• 1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week (40hrs x1-unit/15-unit)
• The typical range for labs is between 1.3-wtus - 5.2-wtus(dependent on courses and number of section(s) assigned)
• The typical range for lectures is between 3-6 units (dependenton courses and number of section(s) assigned)
• No more than 7.5-units

Job Duties

A candidate for the position of teachingassociate in the Department of Civil and Geomatics must meet thefollowing minimum qualifications:

1. Admission to the Civil Program in the Department of Civil andGeomatics, in good academic standing.
2. Enrollment in at least 6-units for the semester or in twocourses toward the degree.
3. Demonstrated, satisfactory progress towards the degree.
4. Ability to relate well with others within the academicenvironment and have the ability or potential to learn how toinstruct and evaluate students.

• Salary: Each department has different salary scales. Pleasecheck with your department for your Base Salary. The monthly salaryis calculated based on the Weighted Teaching Units assigned.
• Salary Schedule: The CSU Salary Schedule can be found here (Class Code = 2354 for Teaching Associates).
• Assignments: Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the teachingassociate.
• Duties Form: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Unit 11 , a Duties Form(see Appendix E of the CBA) will be completed between theDepartment and Academic Student Employee. This form substantiatesthe jobs included for the department teaching associateposition.
• Teaching Associate is a student position for those activelyenrolled in a graduate program at Fresno State.
• Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work oncampus.
