Job summary

California State University, Fresno invites graduate students to apply for Teaching Associate positions in the Psychology department. The TA will teach one or more weekly three-hour lab sections, explain lab activities, supervise work, and assist with student research projects during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 terms.

Teaching Associate (TA) for the Department of Department ofPsychology

College of Science and Mathematics

Position Overview:

The Department of Psychology seeks graduate students as TeachingAssociate applicants. Teaching Associates typically are responsiblefor providing classroom instruction. Eligibility is determined bysuccessful TA eligibility , department eligibility and adequatefunding.

• The department is seeking TA applicants for sections of Psych144 – Experimental Methods.
• The successful applicant will teach one or more three-hourweekly lab sections the following semester. They will explain andsupervise weekly lab activities, assist students with their ongoingresearch projects, evaluate and provide feedback on writtenassignments, and keep track of lab attendance.

The department reserves the right to choose the most qualifiedcandidate for each position and to assign TAs to the courses thatare appropriate for the department program and curriculum in anygiven semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, coursesoffered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester tosemester can be made.

Anticipated Appointment Dates

• Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026;
• Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

Hours/Units per week

Students can work up to 20-hours perweek;

• 1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week (40hrs x1-unit/15-unit)
• The typical range for labs is between 1.3-wtus - 5.2-wtus(dependent on courses and number of section(s) assigned)
• The typical range for lectures is between 3-6 units (dependenton courses and number of section(s) assigned)
• No more than 7.5-units

Job Duties

may include the following, but will be dependentupon the specific course to which the teaching associate will beassigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty memberin charge of the course:

• Teaching Associates will also be called upon to work in acollegial fashion with members of the Psychology department andother university employees

Qualifications:

A candidate for the position of teachingassociate in the Department of Psychology must meet the followingminimum qualifications:

• Admission to the Master’s or Ed.S. Program in the Department ofPsychology, in good academic standing.
• Enrollment in at least 6-units for the semester or in twocourses toward the degree.
• Demonstrated, satisfactory progress towards the degree.
• Ability to relate well with others within the academicenvironment and have the ability or potential to learn how toinstruct and evaluate students.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfullypassed PSYCH 244A (Research Methods) and the Graduate Writing Exam.Candidates who have not successfully passed PSYCH 244A and theGraduate Writing Exam will be required to take a proficiency examto be considered.

• Salary: Each department has different salary scales. Pleasecheck with your department for your Base Salary. The monthly salaryis calculated based on the Weighted Teaching Units assigned.
• Salary Schedule: The CSU Salary Schedule can be found here (Class Code = 2354 for Teaching Associates).
• Assignments: Assignments are made by Department Chair orProgram Coordinator after consultation with the teachingassociate.
• Duties Form: Per the Collective BargainingAgreement for Unit 11 , a Duties Form (see Appendix E of theCBA) will be completed between the Department and Academic StudentEmployee. This form substantiates the jobs included for thedepartment teaching associate position.
• Teaching Associate is a student position for those activelyenrolled in a graduate program at Fresno State.
• Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work oncampus.
