Job summary

Somerville Public Schools is seeking an energetic 26-27 Afterschool Intermittent Substitute Teacher to support after-school programs across Somerville. This part-time role covers dismissal-to-5:30 schedule, with up to 19 hours per week, and requires classroom outreach with elementary and middle-grade students.

You will lead activities, follow the curriculum, supervise students, and build positive relationships with families under the guidance of the OST Director.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum one year experience with school age children including three months supervised experience with school age children.

Responsibilities

• Lead small and large group activities by following the curriculum provided by Site Coordinator.
• Follow Lead Teacher’s daily schedule.
• Travel to multiple sites as needed depending where a substitute is needed.
• Supervise and interact with children in a positive supportive manner.
• Assist in maintaining a relaxed, supportive atmosphere in the classroom.
• Discipline children in accordance with Community Schools Staff Handbook.
• Follow program health and safety procedures as stated in Staff Handbook.
• Assist in maintaining classroom environment including daily set up and clean up.
• Build positive relationships with families and co-workers.
• Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Somerville Community Schools Program provides After School and Out of School Time Care in the Somerville Public Schools. We operate After School programs from dismissal until end of program including early release days; full day programs during school vacation weeks and during summer. It is our mission to provide high quality, affordable, Out of School Time Care to Somerville children in grades Pre-K through 8

Substitutes will lead an academic/homework block, enrichment block, and free block between 2:35pm (1:45 Pre-K) and 5:30 or 1:00 (12:00 Pre-K) and 5:30 on early release day under the direction of the SiteDirector or AssistantSite Director The substitute may also assist a lead teacher or support students individually if needed.

• Stationary Tasks:Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.
