Job Description

The classroom teacher's primary responsibility is to develop an instructional environment and use teaching strategies that achieve the district's goals for students in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development.

Job Summary

1. Plan instruction for each student, including diagnosis, prescription, and evaluation.
2. Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
3. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to students' maturity, interests, and abilities.
4. Prepare for classes and show evidence of preparation upon request.
5. Maintain standards of classroom behavior, develop rules, and enforce them fairly.
6. Use varied instructional techniques and media suited to the physical setting and student needs.
7. Implement the district's educational philosophy and goals.
8. Ensure safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
9. Assess student progress regularly, provide reports, and communicate with parents.
10. Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy.
11. Uphold school rules, regulations, and policies.
12. Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours as needed.
13. Participate in meetings and district committees to promote effective school operation.
14. Attend school-sponsored activities.
15. Contribute to district decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and professional development.
16. Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
17. Supervise assignments for aides, student teachers, and volunteers.
18. Establish cooperative relations with colleagues and others.
19. Participate in the teacher evaluation process.
20. Pursue ongoing professional growth through reading, workshops, and coursework.
21. Perform other duties as assigned, including adhering to Core Expectations for Teachers.
