Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach’s Public Utilities department seeks a Utility Control Center Aide to monitor and operate water and sewer facilities using a computerized control center.

The role requires rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and standby with overtime as needed; a valid driver’s license is required and a 30 WPM typing test is administered. This in-person position ensures reliable essential services for residents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus two years in a field providing customer service.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including days/evenings/midnights and holidays.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in 24-hour monitoring and control of pump stations and tanks.
• Dispatch alarms to appropriate personnel and ensure corrective action.
• Keep logs of shift activities and alarm dispositions.
• Monitor security cameras and coordinate after-hours repairs with field crews.
• Respond to alarm conditions per standard procedures.
