Job summary
Middlebury College in Vermont seeks a Central Heating Plant Supervisor to lead a team of skilled technicians, coordinating maintenance and ensuring reliable operation of the CHP and related systems to meet campus energy demand.
You will work with the Associate Director of Mechanical & Utilities on strategic department issues, supervise 5 staff, manage 24/7 schedules, support training, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while serving as CHP operator as needed.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of related experience in power/ heating plant operations.
- Education and/or certifications in power plant operations and maintenance.
- Experience with steam and electric generating systems.
- Strong troubleshooting of electrical, steam, biomass, and related systems.
- Knowledge of control system operations and maintenance.
- Ability to lead a high-performance work team.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and evaluate a team of hourly staff in CHP operations 24/7.
- Oversee 24/7 CHP scheduling and staff management.
- Coordinate plant maintenance activities with campus goals.
- Support operator development and ongoing training.
- Ensure safety procedures and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as CHP Operator as per schedule (60% operator, 40% supervisor).
