Responsibilities

  • Assist USGA staff with the preparation and set-up of on-site facilities (i.e., corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer village, office trailers).
  • Assist the operations team with billing and financial tracking of orders, create purchase orders and track invoices and budget updates.
  • File all operational paperwork, handle calls and mail.
  • Take and distribute notes for operations vendor meetings and coordinate vendor arrivals on site.
  • Maintain accurate Championship equipment lists.
  • Maintain office supplies and equipment and replenish as necessary.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for the 20 hired interns with Operations Management support.
  • Coordinate with vendors on-site and liaise with USGA staff.
  • Provide administrative office support to USGA staff.
  • Assist other U.S. Open departments as needed.

The 127th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Pebble Beach Golf Links, located in Pebble Beach, CA. This will be the seventh U.S. Open Championship hosted by Pebble Beach. This historic site has held a variety of major events that include a U.S. Women's Open, U.S Amateur, and U.S. Women's Amateur. The last time the U.S. Open Championship took place at Pebble Beach was in 2019.

The 2027 U.S. Open Long-Term Operations Administrative Internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in sports management while contributing to the planning and execution of one of golf's most prestigious events. This internship provides the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals, develop valuable operational skills, and gain firsthand insight into the preparation required to deliver a world‑class sporting event.

About this role:

The Long-Term Operations Administrative Intern assists the United States Golf Association with the operations of the 2027 U.S. Open Championship, including advance set‑up, Championship week responsibilities and post‑Championship breakdown. This is a paid internship, with a housing stipend provided.

Working at the U.S. Open, you will experience a fast‑paced work environment. The successful candidate must have the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks at one time. Each day brings new challenges, and this position requires top‑notch organizational and communication skills. In this position, the Operations Administrative intern will typically work in an office environment as well as at the course, as required. The Operations Administrative intern must have the ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting boxes and furniture and perform manual labor; spending extensive time in the sun and/or inclement weather should be expected. The weeks leading up to the Championship will require at least (40) hour work weeks and as the Championship grows closer, working hours will lengthen to (80+) hours and will include weekends.

The Operations Administrative Intern assists the United States Golf Association field operations staff with the day‑to‑day administrative tasks in the 2027 U.S. Open Operations field office.

What you'll do:
  • Assist USGA staff with the preparation and set‑up of on‑site facilities (i.e., corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer village, office trailers, etc.)
  • Assist the operations team with billing and financial tracking of orders, create purchase orders and track received invoices and budgetary updates throughout the duration of the internship
  • File all operational paperwork, handle incoming calls and incoming/outgoing mail
  • Take and distribute accurate notes for all operations vendor meetings and assist with the coordination of vendor arrivals to the site
  • Help to maintain accurate Championship equipment lists
  • Maintain office supplies and equipment and replenish as necessary
  • Becoming one of the primary points of contact of the 20 hired short‑term interns with support of Operations Management
  • Point of contact for certain vendors to coordinate their work on site.
  • Provide USGA staff with administrative office support
  • Assist other U.S. Open departments with support, as necessary
Pay:

$17.40/hr, subject to applicable California wage and overtime laws

  • Compliance with all USGA safety and operations policies, procedures, and practices
  • Basic accounting knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Prior experience in golf tournament operations is preferred
  • Exceptional work ethic; Team player
