Job summary

Western Reserve Group is offering a Summer 2027 IT Internship focused on Cybersecurity. The program aims to grow technical aptitude and professional skills while learning about the insurance industry and gaining experience on challenging projects at a growing regional insurer in Ohio.

Selected interns will monitor security alerts, assist with vulnerability scanning, contribute to incident response, and participate in risk assessments under supervision.

Qualifications

• Experience in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited four-year high school, college, or university.
• Basic understanding of networking, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and security concepts.
• Familiarity with common security tools (e.g., firewalls, antivirus, SIEM).

Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts, logs, and dashboards for unusual activity.
• Assist with vulnerability scanning, patching, and remediation processes.
• Support incident response activities, including investigation, containment, and documentation.
• Contribute to maintaining and improving security policies, standards, and procedures.

Salary Grade (6) 19.48 - 24.35 - 29.22

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor security alerts, logs, and dashboards for unusual activity.
• Assist with vulnerability scanning, patching, and remediation processes.
• Support incident response activities, including investigation, containment, and documentation.
• Contribute to maintaining and improving security policies, standards, and procedures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited four-year high school, college, or university
• Basic understanding of networking, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and security concepts.
• Familiarity with common security tools (e.g., firewalls, antivirus, SIEM)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of insurance industry
• Exposure to incident response tools or penetration testing frameworks.
• Basic knowledge of cloud security principles (AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001).
• Hands-on experience from labs, academic projects, or personal security projects.
