Job summary

Road Commission for Oakland County is offering internship opportunities for Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, GIS, Legal, and more. Interns gain hands-on experience with road construction projects and cross-functional collaboration on intern group projects.

Interns work Monday–Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with potential overtime; they assist professionals in project layout and coordination, interact with local vendors, and deliver a final presentation on completed projects.

Qualifications

• Sophomore–Master level student pursuing a related degree.
• Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Learn in the ins and outs of construction work and road construction projects.
• Assist professionals in project layout and coordination on real projects.
• Work with local external vendors and contract companies on road projects.
• Coordinate various disciplines through design and construction of a ground-up engineering project.
• Gain cross-functional collaboration and teaming through intern group projects.
• Create and give a presentation on the completed projects at the end of the internship.

Potential Projects:

• Learn in the ins and outs of construction work and road construction projects
• Experience opportunities to assist professionals in project layout and coordination

• All Interns will create and give a presentation on the completed projects at the end of the internship

Note: Assignments may vary based on division and current road projects.

Skills Required:

• Available and able to work Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with a range of expected overtime (varies per department)
• The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Must be able to communicate positively with concerned citizens/residents
• Possess strong organizational skills and complete all work in a timely manner
• Accuracy and attention to detail

Education/Certifications:

• Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Master's level student pursuing a degree in related field
