Job summary

MISO invites motivated students to join its 2027 Summer Internship Program in Carmel, IN. This paid internship focuses on building and improving automation to manage and secure critical computer systems while collaborating with engineers and IT teams to enhance reliability and deployment efficiency.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with Python, Ansible, GitHub Actions, and Packer, attend intern events, and present your project findings at the end of the program.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering or related field for a summer internship in 2027.
• Coursework or experience in operating systems, IT infrastructure, systems administration, and programming (Python).
• Comfort using or learning Windows/Unix administration, Git, GitHub Actions, Ansible, Packer, and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Windows or Linux systems, scripting, and version control.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve automation that helps create, configure, and secure computer systems for MISO’s critical operations.
• Work with engineers to troubleshoot issues, implement fixes, and make automation more reliable and deployable.
• Use tools like Ansible, Python, GitHub Actions, and Packer to replace manual steps with faster, more secure processes.
• Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and impact areas.

What you’ll do as a MISO Intern:

• Build and improve automation that helps create, configure, and secure computer systems for MISO’s critical operations.
• Work with engineers to troubleshoot issues, implement fixes, and see your automation make real systems more reliable and easier to deploy.
• Use tools like Ansible, Python, GitHub Actions, and Packer to replace manual steps with faster, more consistent, and secure processes.
• Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO’s broader mission.
• Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.

We are looking for students who…

• Are pursuing Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering (undergraduate or graduate).
• Have coursework or experience in operating systems, IT infrastructure, systems administration, and programming (especially Python).
• Are comfortable using or learning tools like Windows/Unix administration, Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Ansible, Packer, and Python.
• Have hands-on experience with Windows or Linux systems, scripting, and version control.
• Are curious, collaborative, mission-driven, and eager to learn automation tools and troubleshoot technical issues.

To be eligible for the program, you must be available to start Wednesday, June 2 nd , 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13 th , 2027. No VISA sponsorship opportunities, including OPT/CPT.
