Job summary

MISO invites energetic students to join the 2027 Summer Internship Program in Carmel, Indiana. This on-site role offers hands-on exposure to cybersecurity operations, including automation, detection improvements, and threat hunting under experienced mentors.

You will gain experience in incident investigation, defenses strengthening, and process improvements while participating in community events and professional development activities.

Qualifications

• PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, and SQL skills are relevant to cybersecurity internship tasks.
• Advanced degrees in IT/CS/CE/Cybersecurity are preferred.
• Interns should be able to learn and apply cybersecurity concepts in real-world scenarios.

Responsibilities

• Support real cybersecurity operations—build automations, improve detections, analyze logs, and assist with threat hunts.
• Learn how cybersecurity teams identify suspicious activity, investigate incidents, and strengthen defenses.
• Assist with CTAC and Security team processes by identifying recurring issues and proposing practical solutions.

What you'll do as a MISO Intern:

• Help protect the electric grid by supporting real cybersecurity operations-building simple automations, improving detections, analyzing logs, or assisting with threat hunts.


• Learn how cybersecurity teams identify suspicious activity, investigate incidents, and strengthen defenses using industry tools and hands-on workflows.


• Improve CTAC and Security team processes by identifying recurring issues and proposing practical solutions that make daily operations easier and more effective.


• Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO's broader mission.


• Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.
