Job summary

General Motors offers an internship in creative digital sculpting within GM Design. You will collaborate with Design, Sculpting, and Engineering to build digital models of future automotive themes in a studio environment.

  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months.

Job Description
The Role:

This internship exposes qualified candidates to creative careers at General Motors and helps identify talent for direct positions in creative digital sculpting at Design. The individual will gain an understanding of the aesthetic judgments, technology, production methods, program timelines, and materials used in automotive digital sculpting.

The role also provides opportunities to collaborate on innovation challenges, interact with industry leaders, attend cross-functional networking events, and participate in community service activities.

The Team:

The intern will collaborate with GM Design, Sculpting, and Engineering teams to develop digital models of future automotive themes in a studio environment.

What You'll Do:
  • Work collaboratively with Design, Sculpting, and Engineering to interpret sketches and develop a digital model of a future automotive theme using established and emerging digital-sculpting best practices and techniques.
  • Present finished models to Design and Sculpting leadership at midterm and final show events.
  • Support general sculpting assignments within the studio environment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Animation, Game Design, Transportation Design, Fine Arts, Sculpture, or Ceramics.
  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029.
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Creative ability demonstrated through a supporting 3D portfolio.
  • Basic understanding of design and sculpting principles, including proportion, line, and surface.
  • 3D computer modeling or animation skills.
  • Experience with Alias, Maya, Rhino/Grasshopper, or Unigraphics/NX software.

Work Arrangement:

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to Pasadena, CA, or Warren, MI, on a full-time basis. Each successful candidate will be offered an onsite role at a specific location. Candidate location preferences are considered but cannot be guaranteed.

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program.

Compensation:
  • The salary for this role is $6,100 monthly.
