Job summary

General Motors is seeking a student intern for the Map Crowdsourcing and Enhancements team in Warren, Michigan. You will tackle complex mapping problems using machine learning, geospatial analytics, and large-scale data processing, contributing from data exploration to model deployment and evaluation.

You will work on cloud-based environments, including Azure and Google Cloud, develop data workflows with PySpark, and build scalable pipelines while learning and growing through structured training

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and working toward a Masters or PhD in computer science or related field.
• Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Proficiency in Python and ML libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience with cloud environments and data platforms (Azure, Azure Databricks, GCP).
• Strong fundamentals in statistical modeling and ML frameworks/tools.

About the Team

The Production Mapping organization plays a pivotal role in the software development of mapping solutions to support AV/ADAS at General Motors. This team is responsible for delivering integrated and tested software for various GM features, including Super Cruise.

About The Role

In this role, you will help the Map Crowdsourcing and Enhancements team solve complex mapping problems using machine learning, advanced algorithms, large-scale data processing, and cloud computing. You will contribute across the development lifecycle—from exploring vehicle data and developing models or algorithms to building scalable data workflows, deploying solutions, and evaluating their performance. Areas of focus may include machine learning, geospatial analytics, distributed data processing, workflow automation, and cloud-based software development.

What You’ll Do

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree‑seeking program and in the process of obtaining a Masters or PhD in computer science or a related field.
• Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week.
• Python software skills and experience with ML libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Experience working with cloud environments and data platforms, such as Microsoft Azure, Azure Databricks, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Demonstratable fundamentals in statistical modeling and machine learning frameworks and tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with geospatial data and analytics
• Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
• Graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.

Compensation

• The monthly salary range for this role is $X – $X per month
• GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program.
