Job summary

MKS Inc. invites you to join the Plasma and Reactive Gas Solutions group as a Plasma Science intern/co-op. You will partner with the Advanced Technology Group to contribute to next‑generation technology and report to the ATG Engineering Manager.

The 6‑month internship begins January 2027, with hands-on work in mechanical design, laboratory experiments, data analysis, and final reporting. Gain exposure to multiple divisions and learn MATLAB/SolidWorks in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program specializing in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering.
• Hands-on skills in a scientific laboratory setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel).
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new concepts.
• Must be a US Person.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, test, and package next-generation electro-mechanical components and subsystems.
• Assemble and conduct laboratory experiments to characterize prototype plasma sources.
• Collect, graph and analyze data from experiments.
• Communicate results to the development team and outline next steps.
• Generate detailed final reports for future reference.

Job description

A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Plasma Science intern at Plasma and Reactive Gas Solutions, you will partner with the Advanced Technology Group to contribute to the development of next-generation technology to address our customers' most difficult challenges. In this role, you will report to the ATG Engineering Manager.

Intern / Co-op Program Overview:

• 6-month co-op assignment within a functional area of MKS Inc. that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Intern/Co-op Term:

This is a 6-month internship/co-op beginning in January 2027.

You Will Make an Impact By

• Working as part of a technical / scientific team responsible for the mechanical design, modeling, testing, and packaging of next-generation complex electro-mechanical components and integrated sub-systems.
• Assembling and performing laboratory experiments to characterize the performance and behavior of prototype plasma sources.
• Collecting, graphing, and analyzing the data.
• Communicating those results to the development team and discussing the next steps.
• Generating detailed final reports for future reference.

Skills You Bring:

• Enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor's degree program specializing in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $20.00 to $31.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

• Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.

The application period for the intern/co-op position is estimated to be through the end of November 2026; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.
