Job summary

MKS Inc. is seeking a Electrical Engineering intern/co-op in Wilmington, MA. You will work with Plasma & Reactive Gas Solutions on advanced power electronics, testing high-frequency converters, and supporting cross-functional teams.

The role requires mechatronics and circuit test experience, with opportunities to learn from senior engineers and contribute to manufacturing applications. 6–8 month term begins January 2027, with a 40+ hour workweek and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program for Electrical Engineering.
• Hands-on experience in an R&D electronics lab is desired.
• Ability to read schematics and PCB layouts.
• Proficiency with oscilloscopes, power meters and high voltage probes for testing.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support in analysis, design, and testing of advanced power electronics breakthroughs.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to test/characterize high frequency power converters/rectifiers/inverters.
• Work independently with limited supervision on multiple cross-functional projects.
• Be highly self-motivated with a hands-on, can-do mentality.
• Interface with product engineering and cross-functional teams as required.
• Collaborate with a diverse, multifunctional team environment.

As an electrical engineering intern, you will partner with Plasma & Reactive Gas Solutions to xxx. In this role, you will report to the Sr Mgr, Engineering.

Undergraduate Intern / Co-op Program Overview

• 6-8 months intern/co-op within a functional area of MKS Inc. that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Co-op Term: This is a 6–8-month co-op beginning in January 2027.

You Will Make An Impact By

• Provide technical support in the analysis, design, and testing of advanced power electronics breakthrough technologies in the areas of remote plasma sources, reactive gas generators, flow and pressure measurement.
• Work with senior or principal engineers to test/characterize high frequency power converters/rectifiers/inverters for a variety of manufacturing and industrial applications.
• The person must be able to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly technical environment and work on multiple concurrent cross-functional projects.
• A successful candidate must be highly self-motivated and hands-on with a can-do mentality.
• Interface with product engineering and cross-functional teams as required.
• Collaborate with a diverse, dynamic, multifunctional team environment
• Travel Requirements: No travel is required.

Skills You Bring

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master's Degree program for Electrical Engineering.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering and hands on skills in an R&D electronics laboratory are desired. Strong analytical capability is a must.
• Ability to read and understand the schematics and printed circuit boards layout.
• Ability to use tools such as oscilloscopes, high voltage probes, power meters, etc. to successfully and independently test and debug circuits.
• Identify and troubleshoot problems in prototypes.
• Excellent understanding of power conversion topologies and modulation techniques are highly desirable.
• Proficiency with Simulink/MATLAB, PSIM or Spice Tools are desirable.
• Ability to read and understand C programming language and modify the code as needed.
• Qualified candidates should be US Persons

Preferred Skills

• Must be versed in using MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
• Demonstrated initiative, resiliency, flexibility, time-management, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work 40+ hours per week

Physical Demands And Working Conditions

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Compensation And Benefits

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 to $32.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
