Job summary

MKS Instruments is offering a Mechanical Engineering Intern position in Milpitas, CA. The role partners with Product Marketing, Engineering and Operations to support sustaining engineering activities, participate in product development projects, and assist with product testing.

The program runs for 3 months starting January 2027, with potential extension into summer. You will contribute to design reviews, data analysis, and documentation while gaining exposure to multiple divisions and a culture

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
• Hands-on skills in a laboratory environment.
• Comfortable with mechanical and electrical hardware.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support design of reliable products with cost, reliability, serviceability and manufacturability in mind.
• Perform tests on prototypes to verify product specifications.
• Complete data reduction and evaluate results to inform next steps.
• Document designs per MKS standards: drawings, BOMs, redesign presentations, and test reports.

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Integrated Process Solutions, you will partner with Product Marketing, Engineering and Operations to support Sustaining Engineering activities, participant in Product Development Projects and support various aspects of Product testing. In this role, you will report to the Sr Manager, Product Development.

Program Overview:

• 3-month intern assignment within a functional area of MKS Instruments that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

• Meaningful work and project assignments.

• Networking opportunities with peers and executives.

• Exposure to different divisions of the business.

• Understanding of MKS Instruments’ commitment to culture & belonging.

Program Term:

This is a 3-month program beginning in January 2027. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the assignment. There is a possibility to extend into the summer.

You Will Make an Impact By:

• Support design of highly reliable products with cost, reliability, serviceability and manufacturability in mind

• Perform tests on prototypes to demonstrate that product specifications are met

• Complete data reduction and evaluate results to make recommendation on next steps

• Complete documentation of designs conforming to MKS documentation standards including: detail and assembly drawings, BOMs, design review presentations, and test reports

Skills You Bring:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering

• 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor)

• Hands-on skills in a laboratory environment

• Comfortable with mechanical and electrical hardware

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

• Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 to $28.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
