The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) seeks a Legislative Affairs Intern to support the Director of Policy and Government Affairs and the Government and Legislative Relations Specialist.

Qualifications

  • Assist the Legislative Affairs team with day-to-day tasks and projects

  • Conduct various research projects and support supervision on assignments

Job description

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic intern who is eager to learn about our agency by assisting the work units with projects as assigned. To be successful as an Intern, you should be willing to help with any tasks assigned by a supervisor. You will be involved in upcoming projects as well as assisting with current campaigns.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

This is a temporary internship position. Interns are paid on an hourly basis in accordance with their current academic classification as of the previous Fall Semester. This position does not include benefits, earned leave, or paid holidays. Interns may work up to 40 hours per week during the program period.

The pay for this position is as follows:

  • Lower-division undergraduate (0–59 semester hours): $20.00 per hour
  • Upper-division undergraduate (60–120 semester hours): $21.00 per hour
  • Graduate students (must hold a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a graduate program): $23.00 per hour

Job Specific Duties:

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Legislative Affairs team functions as a liaison between the department, the Governor’s Office, state agencies, and state, federal, and local elected officials. The Legislative Affairs intern works closely with the Director of Policy and Government Affairs and the Government and Legislative Relations Specialist.

Day to day responsibilities of the legislative affairs intern includes helping manage the legislative inquiry system, preparing briefings and internal documents, tracking legislation, attending House and Senate committee meetings, and conducting various research projects.

During the legislative session, interns are responsible for attending House and Senate Floor Sessions and committee hearings and tracking legislation as it passes through both chambers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
