Symetra is offering a Data Analytics Intern position for Summer 2027. This fully remote 12-week internship gives you hands-on experience designing and maintaining clean, well-modeled datasets to power analytics.

Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2027 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks.

As a Data Analytics intern, you’ll help shape the way Symetra uses data by supporting the design and maintenance of clean, reliable, well-modeled datasets that power analytics across the organization. You’ll learn about our products and workflows, collaborate with engineers and analysts, and contribute to data products that support real business objectives.

Team placements & focus areas:

(you’ll be matched based on skills and interest)

• Shared Services Work with business stakeholders to determine data analytics and/or data science needs. Provide business stakeholders with a deliverable that may include AI/LLM work and/or analytics (eg, dashboarding or otherwise).
• Analytics Engineering (Data Platform — Hosting) Build reliable Python+SQL pipelines and transformations that scale, applying version control and basic testing to deliver trustworthy datasets.
• Analytics Engineering (AI Engineering) Build and deploy internal AI-powered applications, applying software development best practices to enable other employees to get the most out of AI.
• Analytics Engineering (Partner Data Ecosystem) Support Partner Relationship Management (PRM) — the platform we're building to create a single, trusted view of the agents, agencies, and distribution partners we do business with. This includes data analysis, discovery work with business and engineering partners, and building something concrete — a dashboard, a data pipeline, or an AI-powered prototype that plugs into PRM to automate processes.
• Compliance Data Analytics Build and support Power BI dashboards and SQL-based analytics, turning complex or imperfect compliance data into clear, reliable insights while improving workflows through automation and AI-enabled tools.
• Stop Loss Data Analytics

Transform structured and unstructured data into BI-ready insights using SQL, Python, and Snowflake. Model data with dbt and SQL to create reliable, high-performing data marts that support reporting and decision-making. Build dashboards and analytics that help business partners understand trends and identify opportunities. Explore agentic AI use cases and contribute to frameworks, prototypes, and proofs of concept that advance our AI capabilities.

What you’ll do:

Who You Are

• Comfortable with SQL and Python (coursework or projects).
• Interested in analytics engineering patterns (staging/marts, testing, version control).
• Able to work with imperfect data and communicate findings clearly.
• Curious, collaborative, and eager to learn.

For More Qualified Candidates (preferred/advanced)

• Hands-on with dbt and Snowflake; basic data tests and CI familiarity.
• Exposure to NLP/sentiment or LLM workflows (e.g., summarization, embeddings).
• Experience with orchestration (Airflow/Prefect/Dagster) and Git-based delivery.

Compensation:

Hourly Range: $22.00-$25.00
