Job summary

BBVA in New York seeks a motivated accounting intern to support the finance team across the broker-dealer and subsidiary. The role provides exposure to journal entries, reconciliations, cost management, and collaboration with front-office business teams and senior management.

The intern will assist with month-end close, expense allocations, P&L analysis, and payroll reconciliations while developing knowledge of financial products and systems in a multinational environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of journal entries for investment banking fees, including review of deal documents and internal records to ensure accuracy of booking.
• Assist in preparation of journal entries for operating expenses and ensure proper authorization supports the expenses.
• Assist in daily reconciliations of the firm’s bank accounts, including the operating accounts and payroll accounts.
• Track and analyze operating expenses by lines of business.
• Assist in preparing month-end reconciliations and assist in month-end closing process.
• Assist in preparing allocation of expenses by department for invoices to send to Accounts Payable.
• Analyze daily fluctuations in P&L by product and prepare explanations of significant changes to be sent to the CFO.
• Assist in reconciling payroll related accounts on a monthly basis.
• Other ad-hoc projects, as needed.

Seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to work in the accounting department of a U.S. broker-dealer and branch subsidiary of a multinational financial services group based out of Spain.

Job Description:

This internship will provide exposure to the various facets of accounting for financial institutions. The intern will get exposure to working with the broker-dealer, bank and cost management teams and this will provide a diversity of knowledge in different financial products and systems. This position will also have exposure to certain front office business teams and with senior management in the Finance area.

The detailed list of responsibilities is below:

Qualifications

• Majoring in Business
• Ability to understand and solve accounting issues
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, knowledge of pivot tables and more complex formulas in excel is a plus
• Well organized and detailed oriented
• Quick learner, self-motivated and a team player

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected hourly rate is $30/hour. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
