APPLIED MATERIALS is offering an internship in their Environmental, Health and Safety Rotational Development Program in Tempe, Arizona. This program allows students to rotate through key organizations while developing essential skills in a collaborative learning environment.

Program Overview

Through the Environmental, Health and Safety Rotational Development Program, you will rotate through two key organizations, Environmental, Health and Safety and Product Safety, over the course of 12 weeks during the summer, all while developing the technical and business skills required to be successful in your full‑time role in either the Environmental, Health and Safety or Product Safety disciplines. In the program, you will experience a blended learning environment that includes mentorship, job shadowing, and expanded networking opportunities with leaders and within our Employee Resource Groups. Participants will have the opportunity to gain high level visibility and create significant impact within Applied Materials Silicon Valley locations.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of EHS compliance programs (e.g., Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Hearing Conservation, Occupational Safety, Radiation Safety, and Respiratory Protection).
  • Assist in inspection and auditing of laboratory environments to detect existing and potential hazards; recommend corrective or preventative measures and collaborate on solutions.
  • Participate in a cross‑function team to investigate incidents, drive root‑cause analyses, and identify corrective actions.
  • Be an active member of the volunteer emergency response team.
  • Participate in a cross‑functional team to perform risk assessments, identify potential hazards, analyze consequences, and develop mitigation steps.
  • Participate in compliance evaluation of products per company and governmental requirements.
  • Perform product and system safety analysis on components, subsystems, and systems.
  • Prepare periodic and special reports in connection with engineering studies and projects, and liaise with other companies and outside organizations.
  • Manage 3rd‑party Product Safety tool assessments and drive corrective actions within the various internal organizations.
Qualifications
  • Current student pursuing a degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, or an engineering discipline.
  • Good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Highly organized, self‑motivated, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and negotiate with others to adopt different viewpoints.
  • Ability to exercise judgment based on analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Data analytics skills (e.g., advanced Excel, working with multiple data sets for decision making).
  • Flexible and adaptable mindset that thrives in a results‑driven culture.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
