Nutrition & Wellness Worker I

Grade 11, $15.15/hour

Non-Interim Position

Duration: 9 months, 8 hours/day, 6:00am – 2:30pm. Dates: 8/3/2026 – 5/26/2027.

Purpose Statement

The job of Nutrition & Wellness Worker I is to provide support to food service personnel at assigned location, with responsibilities including food service activities, food preparation, and compliance with the National School Lunch Program and mandated health requirements.

Essential Functions

Clean equipment, storage areas, and food serving lines (e.g., pans, utensils, refrigerators) to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
Assist with inspections of food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality, and specifications of orders and comply with mandated health requirements.
Support management, substitute personnel, student workers, and volunteers in daily kitchen operations.
Serve one or more food items to meet mandated nutritional requirements.
Stock food and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security of items.
Reconcile transactions (e.g., meal counts, monies collected) to maintain account balances in compliance with policies and procedures.
Maintain manual and electronic records (e.g., production reports, temperature logs, time sheets) to provide up-to-date information and historical reference as per administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Use web‐based programs and other software related to the N&W Department for daily operations.

Other Functions

Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skill: perform multiple tasks with potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions, including operating commercial kitchen equipment and adhering to safety practices.
Knowledge: basic math, written procedures, routine documents, clear communication, multi‑step instructions; safety practices; food preparation and handling; sanitation practices.
Ability: use job-related equipment, consider multiple factors when operating equipment, flexibly work with others under varying circumstances, work with diverse individuals and groups, interpret data and follow guidelines, communicate with kitchen manager, and maintain rapport with students, employees, and community.

Work Environment

Physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. Requires 10% sitting, 30% walking, 60% standing. Work conducted under temperature extremes and exposure to risk of injury or illness. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
