Job Description

Worcester Cultural Academy Public Charter School is seeking an experienced and passionate Multilingual Learner Teacher to join our team in Worcester, MA. This is a full-time position serving a substantial and linguistically diverse MLL population across grades K-7 in both inclusion and pull-out settings. We are looking for a candidate who brings deep expertise in language acquisition, genuine cultural competence, and the ability to be a strong advocate and resource for our multilingual students and their families. We welcome candidates who reflect the cultural diversity of our community.

Who We Are

WCA is a growing charter public school that opened in August 2023 with a vision of becoming a K-8 community. We launched with kindergarten and have added a grade every year since – this fall we welcome our first 7th graders. As an EL (Expeditionary Learning) Education school, we believe in hands‑on learning that challenges students to grow in three dimensions: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. We partner with organizations like the EcoTarium, Worcester Art Museum, and Hanover Theater and anchor our curriculum in Learning Expeditions that make learning meaningful and real. Our multilingual learners bring extraordinary assets to our school community – and our MLL Teacher plays a central role in ensuring they have full access to everything we offer.

We want to be honest with prospective candidates: this is energizing, demanding work. Our MLL population is large, linguistically diverse, and deserving of a teacher who brings both expertise and heart to this role every single day. If that excites you, you'll fit right in.

What You'll Do
  • Direct Student Instruction and Support: Provide high-quality English language development instruction to identified MLL students across grades K-7 in both pull-out and inclusion settings
  • Design and deliver lessons that build academic language proficiency across the four domains — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — while connecting to grade-level content
  • Differentiate instruction to meet students at their current level of English proficiency while maintaining high expectations for growth and achievement
  • Support students' access to Learning Expeditions and grade-level curriculum, ensuring multilingual learners are fully included in the richness of our school's educational model
  • Use students' home languages and cultural backgrounds as assets, incorporating culturally responsive and sustaining practices into every aspect of your teaching
Assessment and Data
  • Administer and analyze language proficiency assessments to determine student levels and monitor annual growth
  • Use iReady, MCAS, WIDA, and other progress monitoring tools to track academic growth alongside language development
  • Maintain accurate and organized MLL records, including language proficiency data, accommodation plans, and required state documentation
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions, identify students needing additional support, and communicate progress to families and colleagues
Collaboration and Consultation
  • Partner closely with general education teachers to co‑plan and co‑teach in inclusion settings, ensuring MLL students have meaningful access to grade-level content
  • Serve as a resource and thought partner to classroom teachers on language acquisition, scaffolding strategies, and culturally responsive instruction
  • Collaborate with special education staff to support students who are both MLL and have IEPs, ensuring both sets of needs are addressed with care and coordination
  • Participate in grade‑level team meetings, contributing MLL expertise to school‑wide conversations about student support
Family and Community Engagement
  • Build authentic, trusting relationships with families across the school's full range of linguistic and cultural communities
  • Communicate proactively with families about their child's language development and academic progress, using interpretation and translation support as needed
  • Serve as a bridge between multilingual families and the broader school community, ensuring every family feels welcomed, informed, and valued
  • Advocate for multilingual learners and their families within the school and with outside partners and agencies as needed
Compliance and Advocacy
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal requirements related to MLL identification, programming, and reporting
  • Ensure students are appropriately identified, served, and exited from MLL services in accordance with Massachusetts DESE guidelines
  • Advocate consistently for the full inclusion and high achievement of multilingual learners across all aspects of school life
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Master's degree in ESL, Bilingual Education, or a related field preferred
  • Massachusetts DESE license in English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual Education (or eligibility for licensure)
  • Demonstrated experience teaching multilingual learners across a range of proficiency levels and grade bands
  • Strong knowledge of language acquisition theory and evidence-based instructional strategies for MLL students
  • Experience administering and interpreting ACCESS or similar language proficiency assessments
  • Experience working in both inclusion and pull-out models
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with general education and special education teachers
  • Experience working with linguistically diverse populations — proficiency in one or more languages spoken by our school community is a strong plus
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with families across cultural and linguistic differences
  • Comfort with data collection, analysis, and compliance documentation
  • Flexibility, persistence, and a genuine belief that multilingual learners are among our school's greatest assets
  • Full-time
  • Salary commensurate with experience; $52,562-81,004
