Overview

Position for the 2026-27 school year at Cache La Poudre Middle School, working in the Affective Needs program. Apply directly on the district job board.

Duration of position: Ongoing

Summary

Responsible for providing center-based level substitute coverage for licensed and classified positions. May include substituting as an Integrated Services/special education paraprofessional, or a licensed teacher in the absence of the teacher or paraprofessional. Provides instructional and physical support for students with significant needs to participate in class activities. Instructs students, facilitates learning, and supports center-based programs as directed by building administrators for student supervision and instructional needs.

Job Tasks
  • Provide substitute coverage for center-based programs, deliver instruction per lesson plans, and use provided materials to achieve lesson goals. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Provide building-level substitute coverage for Integrated Services/special education teachers and paraprofessional positions. Implement instruction and reinforce learning skills in individual or small groups, adapt curriculum to student needs, monitor and enforce acceptable behavior, and implement daily and long-range lessons to meet IEPs, behavior plans, and/or health care plans.
  • Assist students with personal care, social skills, and self-awareness in getting to and from facilities; assist with personal health and hygiene needs (including feeding and toileting as required). Lift, transfer, or push students in wheelchairs. Use alternative communication methods as needed and adapt materials for students with hearing or vision disabilities.
  • Maintain routine and a safe, orderly environment. Enforce reasonable rules of conduct to encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
  • Monitor students in classroom and during breaks, lunch, recess, field trips, transportation, etc. Reinforce school-wide discipline procedures.
  • Coordinate with teachers and staff ahead of planned absences and coverage needs. Communicate regularly with school administrators on coverage needs.
  • Assist staff and administrators with special projects; attend in-services, meetings, IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, teaching, or related field preferred
  • One to two years of related experience
  • Experience working with special needs students preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Colorado Department of Education Substitute Authorization required
  • Colorado Department of Education Teaching licenses or Special Services Provider License preferred
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 1 month of hire
