Job summary

Brilla Schools in the Bronx is seeking an Elementary School Literacy Teacher for the 2026-27 year to lead literacy instruction across core areas and collaborate with colleagues to meet growth targets for 2nd–4th grade students.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree, current elementary teaching certification (preferred), and experience in urban settings. Brilla offers robust professional development, competitive compensation, and a supportive working environment.

  • Current elementary teaching certification preferred; urban teaching experience valued.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and instructional coaching.
  • Lead data-informed instruction and monitor student progress toward mastery.
  • Deliver rigorous literacy lessons across Close Reading, Writing, Phonics, and Interventions.
  • Collaborate with literacy colleagues and grade-level teams to support growth.
  • Engage families to strengthen home–school connections and student outcomes.

Position OverviewAll Brilla teachers share a relentless belief and focus that scholars can and will achieve excellent academic outcomes and a robust character education. The key responsibilities and drivers to achieving outcomes for students include:

  • Understanding, planning, and executing key elements of innovative pedagogy and data-based decision-making through a deep love of learning
  • Establishing and maintaining a highly structured and welcoming classroom culture where scholars are supported in developing their own internalization and mastery of virtue
  • Provide a model of courage, justice, wisdom, and self-control, while championing a positive, flexible attitude and solution-based approach to challenges aiming to challenge the status quo of the current educational landscape in underserved communities
  • A desire to accept, implement, and seek feedback, and a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities while inspiring outstanding achievement in scholars
  • Develop meaningful relationships with students,families and colleagues that inspire Scholars to love learning and achieve exceptional academic success

Core Competencies & ResponsibilitiesBrilla’s Elementary School Literacy teachers are content experts who foster Literacy environments in the Close Reading, Writing, Phonics and Literacy Interventions blocks and mindsets where all scholars have access to grade level standards and demonstrate high levels of growth and achievement. The habits and practices that allow teachers’ to drive outcomes include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in ongoing professional development, including formal and informal observation and coaching cycles and daily intellectual prep meetings
  • Implementing looking at student work protocols, and data analysis practices and urgently responding to student data
  • Establishing and communicating standards and content-based objectives and regularly evaluating student progress toward mastery
  • Internalizing the provided curriculum, and teach rigorous, classically-inspired lessons that adhere with Brilla’s ambitious student growth targets across one grade level of students (2-4)
  • Collaborating vertically with Literacy content teachers, and laterally with grade-level teachers
  • Partnering with families to nurture a home to school connection that fosters shared accountability for scholars’ outcomes
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Possession of current teaching certification as an elementary school teacher (preferred)
  • Relevant urban, elementary teaching experience with demonstrated student results (preferred)
  • Special Education credential and experience (highly preferred)
