Position Details

The Department of Philosophy, housed in the College of Arts and Letters, offers a comprehensive undergraduate philosophy program with concentrations in Ethics, Politics, and Law; and Science, Reason and Values. This position is part of the Teaching Faculty Pool for part‑time lecturers.

Responsibilities

Part‑time lecturers are expected to conduct instruction, prepare classes, grade assignments, and hold office hours. Additional duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments—including dates, time, and modality—are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Rank and Salary

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Current classification ranges (full‑time scale) are as follows:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211

Compensation is paid in six installments per semester and is pro‑rated based on the number of weighted teaching units (WTUs) assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Philosophy
• At least one year of college‑level teaching experience
• Capability to teach one or more of the following courses:

• PHIL 2 – Ethics
• PHIL 4 – Critical Thinking
• PHIL 6 – Introduction to Philosophy
• PHIL 26 – History of Philosophy

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Philosophy
• Experience teaching online courses
• Ability to teach large classes
