Job summary

Beaufort County School District is seeking a Middle School STEM teacher to provide students with a rigorous and relevant Science/Technology/Engineering/Math education in Bluffton. The teacher will supervise and evaluate students, apply the PLTW Gateway standards, and help learners solve real‑world problems using the design process while maintaining a safe, professional environment.

• Provide students with a rigorous and relevant STEM education and supervise/evaluate student progress.
• Teach to the SC PLTW Gateway Standards and integrate PLTW software and LMS.
• Foster problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, and real‑world design thinking.
• Maintain a safe, orderly teaching environment and support career planning in STEM.

We are looking for a Middle School STEM teacher who will provide students with a rigorous and relevant Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) education.

Position Purpose

The Middle School STEM teacher provides students with a rigorous and relevant STEM education. The teacher is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within his/her teaching assignment.

Essential Functions

• Ensure students gain skills in problem‑solving, communication, collaboration, critical‑thinking, and creativity.
• Help students focus on solving real‑world problems and use the design process to “think like an engineer”.
• Facilitate student learning, use data to plan, organize and set goals.
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment.
• Teach to the South Carolina PLTW Gateway Standards, including various software applications and PLTW’s learning management system.
• Facilitate career planning opportunities in STEM occupations for students.

Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrators.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree and current certification in a Career & Technology, Math and/or Science discipline.
• Current license to teach Project Lead the Way or eligibility for a South Carolina PLTW Endorsement after successful completion of the designated courses.
• Minimum of two years of work experience in an engineering‑related field preferred.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Physical Demands

The position requires ability to lift items, sit, stand, walk for required periods, speak and hear, use close vision, and communicate effectively in English. Candidates may also have to use American Sign Language or Braille. Reach and use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls.
