Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: The Middle School STEM teacher provides students with a rigorous and relevant Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) education. The teacher is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within his/her teaching assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure students gain skills in problem‑solving, communication, collaboration, critical‑thinking, and creativity; help students focus on solving real world problems and use the design process to “think like an engineer”; facilitate student learning, use data to plan, organize and set goals; and maintain safe and orderly environment; responsible for teaching to the South Carolina PLTW Gateway Standards to include various software applications and PLTW’s learning management system; responsible for facilitating career planning opportunities in STEM occupations for students.

  • Provide students with a rigorous and relevant Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) education with a focus on health sciences.
  • Ensure students gain skills through project‑based learning to include Project Lead the Way courses on problem‑solving, communication, collaboration, critical‑thinking, and innovation.
  • Help students focus on solving real world problems to “create and innovate” around healthcare concepts.
  • Integrate science and health education related activities within STEM related content.
  • Facilitate student learning, using data to plan, organize and set goals; and maintain safe and orderly environment.
  • Teach to the South Carolina Career & Technical Education standards to include various software applications and online learning management systems.
  • Facilitate career awareness activities in STEM & Healthcare occupations for students.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate and current certification in a Career & Technology, Math and/or Science discipline.
  • Must be currently licensed to teach Project Lead the Way or be eligible for a South Carolina PLTW Endorsement after successful completion of the designated Project Lead the Way courses.
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience in an engineering‑related field preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
