POSITION TITLE: Lab Instructor

CAMPUS/DEPT: Campus

STATUS & SALARY/FUNDING: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, 10 Month Calendar, Per Ancillary Aide Salary Matrix

  • 100% funded by Federal Grants
  • 50% funded by Federal Grants

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lab Instructor is responsible for assisting in student learning through a computer based instructional program, and supports student instruction, learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Assist in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities through the computer based instructional program.
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills through the computer based instructional program.
  • Operate, manage, secure and care for classroom lab equipment.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remediation.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips.
  • Communicate regularly with the counselor regarding progress of student coursework.
  • Alert the appropriate parties of problems or special information about an individual student.
  • Help prepare/organize instructional materials for students.
  • Reinforce safety in the classroom.
  • Establish and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Assist with supporting lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.
  • Assist in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Strive to implement the district and campus’ philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participate in district staff development as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as needed.
  • Adhere to district and campus procedures.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s Degree or a minimum of 60 college semester hours; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working in a school setting with diverse student populations, parents, and other stakeholders
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard, smart board and other classroom technology.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds, including but not limited to: books, paper and instructional materials/supplies.
  • This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling and/or the ability to be mobile.
  • This position may require prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to travel throughout the district and city as needed by means of personal/private or public transportation in compliance with the state’s department of motor vehicle and/or public transportation laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
