Job summary

Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools is seeking a 2026-2027 Assistant Principal for St. Mary Catholic School in Mokena. The role is full-time and benefit eligible, beginning August 2026, reporting to the principal in collaboration with a Catholic mission.

The position requires a master’s degree, Illinois administrative licensure or active licensure in an approved program, and 3–5 years of teaching experience, ideally in a Catholic school. Leadership experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Illinois administrative licensure (Type 75) or in an accredited program.
• At least 3–5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic school.

Responsibilities

• Assuming responsibility in the absence of the principal.

Position Purpose

The Assistant Principal is considered a ministerial employee by their role as Administrator. Administrators working in a Catholic School agree to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example these individuals support all the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives. Administrators agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission.

The Assistant Principal is a member of the administrative team and reports directly to the principal. In collaboration with the Principal, the Assistant Principal is expected to create a Catholic culture that not only encourages the active engagement of teachers and students, but that also instills within each child a genuine desire to learn.

The Assistant Principal…

Education & Experience

• Highly recommended and preferred that the Assistant Principal be Catholic, but isnot required;
• Holds a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning;
• Possession of current Illinois administrative licensure (Illinois ProfessionalEducator License with either a General Administrative (Type 75) or a PrincipalEndorsement) or is in an accredited program;
• At least three to five years successful teaching preferably in a Catholic school; with knowledge and exposure that is sufficiently broad to provide an understanding of the preschool through grade eight structure;
• Leadership experience preferred.

Annual Salary Range

Annual Salary Range $54,490 - $103,037

• Final salary will be determined by relevant teaching experience and relevant education.
