Friendship Public Charter School operates a network of college-preparatory public charter schools, serving students from preschool through 12th grade. Our mission is to provide a world-class education that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic achievement and success beyond high school.
Responsibilities
The Friendship Summer Learning Academy Teacher reports to the Summer Learning Academy Principal. The teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students and creates an environment conducive to their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development to ensure success for every student. The teacher must foster student success by developing, communicating, implementing, and evaluating a shared vision of learning that reflects excellence during the Summer Learning Academy.
General
- Strong written, oral communication, and human relations skills.
- Knowledge of current, effective instructional and learning practices at Friendship Public Charter School, especially remedial instruction techniques.
- Knowledge of the school curriculum and ability to implement it effectively in the classroom.
- Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Ability to work positively with students and parents regarding student development academically and socially.
Academic Achievement
- Use various instructional methodologies and resources to prepare and execute lesson plans aligned with standards and tailored to students’ individual needs.
- Supervise students in different school-related settings.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
- Participate in data discussions to inform instruction and improve student results.
- Provide instruction that incorporates multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet all students' needs.
- Administer various assessments as per the assessment calendar.
- Communicate high standards for teaching and learning in an engaging and effective manner.
- Use data to make informed decisions for instruction.
- Maintain student portfolios reflecting achievement and growth.
- Adjust teaching based on data analysis.
- Communicate student progress to parents and team members through reports and other documentation.
- Integrate technology into teaching and professional activities.

- Communicate a vision of excellence and continuous improvement aligned with Summer Learning Academy goals.
- Effectively convey the mission to peers, students, and families.
- Collaborate as a team member in planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities.

- Establish and enforce classroom conduct standards fairly and consistently.
- Maintain discipline and foster a safe, positive learning climate.
- Develop strong interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, students, and community members.
- Handle discipline cases according to the school's Code of Conduct.
- Follow established procedures for routine tasks, problem-solving, and suggestions.
Enrollment & Operational
- Be punctual and dependable consistently.
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to procedures.
- Enforce attendance policies.
- Keep and submit reports promptly.
- Follow all guidelines in the Summer Learning Academy Handbooks.
- Keep a responsibilities folder for substitute teachers.
Evaluation
- Complete surveys for continuous improvement.
- Participate in weekly feedback meetings with SLA Principals.
- Submit a portfolio based on outlined requirements.
Professional Development
- Engage actively in required professional development and growth activities.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and PD sessions.
Supplies
- Monitor proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful completion of the Praxis II Exam.
- At least one year of teaching experience with demonstrated student achievement and growth.
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Comfort with basic technology tools.
- Ability to follow CDC/safety protocols.
- Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Commitment to teaching students from minority and/or lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Urban teaching experience preferred.
