Job Title: Chef, Dining Services

Department: Staff

Position: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Part-Time Cook for the Dining Hall this Summer season. This is a 30-hour per week position, with hours set between 7am-2pm, Monday-Friday, in coordination with the supervisor.

Overview

Founded in 2005, Saint Patrick Catholic School (Norfolk, Virginia) is an independent Catholic school with approximately 400 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school fosters a vibrant community of educators and encourages students to develop a growth mindset, centered around six 'pillars' of education that support the holistic development of each student.

Responsibilities

  • Cook and prepare various foods according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
  • Set up workstations with all necessary ingredients and equipment
  • Prepare ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling
  • Safely use utensils including knives
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, steamers, slicers, choppers, mixers, dishwashers, and other food service machinery
  • Cook using methods like baking, roasting, broiling, steaming, and more for various foods including meats
  • Arrange, garnish, and portion food according to guidelines
  • Store food properly following safety policies and procedures
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Adhere to safety policies, including food safety and sanitation standards
  • Assist with serving during lunch
  • Work with Food Service Manager to estimate and order supplies
  • Attend faculty and department meetings, contributing to teamwork and morale
  • Participate in faith formation activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a cook or in related roles
  • Knowledge of food preparation principles, cooking methods, and food safety regulations
  • Understanding of special dietary requirements
  • Ability to obtain food safety certification
  • Basic math and counting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Commitment to serving as a positive role model for students

Education and Experience

  • At least 2 years of related experience or training
  • Food Handler's Certification preferred

This role may involve physical activities such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, extended standing, and walking. Uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
