Department Chair Job Description:

This position requires strong collaboration across three levels, focusing on curriculum alignment, essential learnings, and instructional practices. The role involves at least three days of collaborative work, ideally scheduled as one day in August, one during the school year, and one in June, with additional time as needed. This work is under the supervision of the District and level Principals.

I. Grades 9-12 Department Chairperson
  1. Lead the instructional work for the department.
  2. Co-facilitate monthly department meetings.
  3. Ensure deep implementation of the Minnetonka Instructional Framework in all courses.
  4. Lead experiential learning initiatives across courses.
  5. Propose new courses to meet learner needs and challenges.
  6. Lead the development of online learning within your department.
  7. Create pathways for students to complete rigorous coursework.
  8. Innovate and seek ideas for improvement.
  9. Define, communicate, and support the integration of essential learnings and assessments.
  10. Support curriculum mapping and revision.
  11. Assist in material selection.
  12. Participate in recruitment and interviews when appropriate.
Requirements
  1. Be a continuing contracted (tenured) teacher in the relevant department.
  2. Ability to develop district and building goals.
  3. Exceptional communication skills.
  4. Proven effective leadership within the department.
  5. Willingness to work additional days outside the school year as needed.
  6. Participation in workshops and training to develop required skills.
Compensation:

Refer to the 2024-25 teacher salary schedule. Position rates are detailed in Appendix -e-, Schedule D. This position does not include medical or dental benefits.
