Job description

Job Description for Department Chair - Grades 9-12

The Department Chair is responsible for leading the instructional work within their department, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the implementation of district frameworks and innovative practices.

  1. Lead the instructional work for the department.
  2. Co-facilitate monthly department meetings.
  3. Ensure deep implementation of the Minnetonka Instructional Framework across all courses.
  4. Lead experiential learning initiatives in all courses.
  5. Propose and develop new courses to meet learners' needs and provide challenges.
  6. Lead the development of online learning within the department.
  7. Create pathways for students to complete rigorous coursework.
  8. Drive innovation and actively seek new ideas within the building.
  9. Define, communicate, and help implement essential learnings and assessments in each course.
  10. Support curriculum mapping and revisions.
  11. Provide leadership in selecting instructional materials.
  12. Assist with recruitment and interviews as needed.
  13. Possess a Continuing Contracted Teacher (tenured) status in the department.
  14. Contribute to the development of district and building goals.
  15. Exhibit exceptional communication skills.
  16. Demonstrate effective leadership within the department through successful experiences.
  17. Be willing to work additional days outside the school year for meetings, curriculum writing, or other responsibilities.
  18. Participate in workshops and training to further develop required skills.
Additional Details

This position requires strong collaboration, focusing on curriculum alignment, essential learnings, and instructional practices across three levels, with designated collaboration days in August, during the school year, and in June. The position is under the oversight of district and level principals.

Compensation

See the 2024-25 teacher salary schedule. Rates are detailed in Appendix -e-, Schedule D. This position is not eligible for medical or dental benefits.
