2025-2026 Special Education Intervention Specialist- Resource Room 9-12

KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a national network of free, open enrollment, college preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and life. There are 280 KIPP schools across the nation and the District of Columbia, serving more than 175,000 students and alumni with more than 15,000 educators.

KIPP Columbus is looking for a highly qualified Special Educator who has a track record of instructional excellence and who is willing to continuously go above and beyond for students. Our KIPP team is committed to leading and teaching through an anti-racist lens and are responsible for delivering effective, rigorous instruction in their content areas that produce high-quality results and student understanding. The Diverse Learning Team at KIPP Columbus provides crucial services to students with disabilities.

The Resource Room Intervention Specialist will teach Math or English courses required to meet graduation requirements to students with disabilities in a group of no more than 16 students per period. The Resource Room Intervention Specialist will provide specially designed instruction to students on their caseload and lead transition activities during their diverse learning lab period.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  1. Implement individualized education programs (IEPs)
  2. Design and execute individualized instructional strategies aligned with the Ohio Learning Standards to address the unique needs of special education students
  3. Provide direct intervention for students with disabilities in the special education setting
  4. Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet students' unique learning needs
  5. Use evidence-based instructional strategies to support academic growth
  6. Serve as a liaison between students, teachers, families, and related service providers
  7. Ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications
  8. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) meetings
  9. Implement behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavior supports
  10. Provide social-emotional learning (SEL) support to students with disabilities
  11. Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies
  12. Assess students' academic and behavioral progress using formal and informal assessments
  13. Maintain documentation and progress reports for IEPs
  14. Adjust instructional strategies based on data-driven decision-making
  15. Adhere to the Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities, ensuring proper placement, instruction, and evaluation of students with disabilities
  16. Ensure adherence to federal and state special education laws
  17. Ensure adherence to board policies and district procedures
  18. Stay updated on best practices in inclusive education through ongoing training
  19. Actively involve parents and colleagues as learning partners, fostering a collaborative approach to student development

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  2. Current Ohio Special Education Intervention Specialist License or willingness and ability to pursue certification by start date
  3. Prior teaching experience preferred, but not required
  4. Ability to demonstrate content knowledge in Math or English
  5. Experience using Ohio’s Extended Learning Standards
  6. Experience with participating in ETR meetings and writing ETR part 1
  7. Experience with writing IEPs, progress monitoring, progress reporting & data collection
  8. Experience using SameGoal to create special education documents
  9. Belief that outstanding school leaders, staff, and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes for all students
  10. Ability to persevere with a sense of optimism, strong problem-solving skills, and desire to learn and grow in a collaborative professional learning community
  11. Willingness, and commitment, to go above and beyond to prove the possible with students
  12. Ability to multi-task and work within an ambiguous, fast-moving, start-up environment while driving toward clarity and solutions
  13. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  14. Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high levels of responsibility and multiple priorities
