About The Team

For this School Psychologist position, you’ll be working for our high school in center city Philadelphia called Freire Charter High School (9th-12th Grade): One of the first charter schools to open in Pennsylvania, Freire High School was founded in 1999 as the flagship Freire Schools campus. 100% of the Freire High School Class of 2024 were accepted to college and earned almost $8 million in scholarships and financial aid offers for college. Freire High School’s rigorous, creative curriculum and comprehensive academic and emotional supports help our students thrive in high school, in college, and beyond.

What you’ll do

As a School Psychologist, you'll provide comprehensive psychological services, including assessments, counseling, and interventions, to support the academic and emotional success of our students. You'll regularly collaborate with educators, administrators, families, and external partners to create a nurturing and effective learning environment for our Freire High School students.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct psychological evaluations to identify students' cognitive, academic, and social-emotional needs, and determine eligibility for special education services.
  • Counseling and Intervention: Provide individual and group counseling to students facing academic, behavioral, or emotional challenges. Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to student needs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, academic advisors, and the emotional support team to develop strategies that promote student well-being and academic achievement.
  • Crisis Management: Participate in crisis intervention and provide support during emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of the school community.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and supervise psychology and social work interns from local university partners.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with school policies and state regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in School Psychology or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid Pennsylvania School Psychologist ( CSPG 81 School Psychologist PK-12) Certification is REQUIRED.
  • Prior experience working with urban youth in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in conducting psychological assessments, developing intervention plans, and providing counseling services. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Dedication to promoting a peaceful and inclusive school culture that supports the diverse needs of all students.
