Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands, based in Dallas, TX, seeks a Quality Technician to monitor and report on the quality of raw materials through finished products. You will support continuous improvement, corrective actions, and operational excellence across manufacturing processes.

Key duties include inspecting materials, auditing processes, documenting results, and collaborating with production, engineering, and leadership to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED and 2+ years in quality inspection in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read measurements, fractions, decimals, drawings, and product specs.
  • Familiar with SOPs, quality docs, NCRs, RMAs, and quality reporting systems.

Job Description

The Quality Technician at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and reporting on the quality of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products throughout the manufacturing process. This position ensures products meet company standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements while supporting continuous improvement initiatives, corrective actions, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products to verify compliance with specifications, engineering drawings, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Conduct inspections on window frames, sashes, glass units, hardware, and completed windows to identify defects and ensure product conformance prior to shipment.
  • Perform quality audits of products and manufacturing processes to ensure adherence to established procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Accurately document inspection results, audit findings, test data, nonconformances, and corrective actions using quality systems, reports, logs, and databases.
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify root causes, support problem-solving efforts, and drive process and product improvements.
  • Assist with investigations, corrective actions, preventive actions, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), and RMAs (Return Material Authorizations).
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Provide training, coaching, and first-level quality support to Production Associates regarding specifications, inspection procedures, quality requirements, and defect prevention practices.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and verify inspection tools and testing equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and reliability.
  • Support internal, customer, and third-party audits by providing documentation, records, and quality data as required.
  • Maintain quality records and documentation in accordance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards, including ISO requirements where applicable.
  • Communicate quality concerns, inspection results, and production risks effectively across departments and shifts to ensure timely resolution and continuity.
  • Partner with operations leadership to prioritize work, remove barriers, and support on-time delivery of quality products.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment; window, glass, or building products experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects, inconsistencies, and quality concerns.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control principles.
  • Experience using quality inspection tools, including tape measures, calipers, gauges, and other measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret measurements, fractions, decimals, technical drawings, and product specifications.
  • Understanding of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective actions, NCR processes, and RMA procedures.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry, spreadsheets, and quality reporting systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across production, engineering, management, and customer-facing teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical training or certification in Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Experience inspecting windows, glass, vinyl, or fenestration products.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) requirements and customer quality expectations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, and technical specifications.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
