Technique seeks a 1st Shift Metal Finishing Prep at our Jackson, MI facility. You will prepare metal surfaces to A-class quality, read blueprints, and operate laser etching, leak testing, and robotic welders. You’ll ensure surfaces meet specs before coating and shipment.

The role emphasizes conventional automotive sanding techniques, defect identification, substrate prep, and weld seam blending, with MIL-SPEC familiarity a strong plus.

Qualifications

• Experience achieving A-class surface quality, zero defects, inspection-ready products.
• Proficient in dry sanding with grit progression 80–600+.
• Ability to read blueprints and prep metal surfaces prior to coating.
• Familiarity with MIL-SPEC coating requirements and defense standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Achieve A-class surface quality with zero defects and inspect readiness.
• Perform dry sanding and feathering on complex contours.
• Identify and correct surface defects such as orange peel and weld splatter.
• Prepare bare metal, weld joints, and machined surfaces including pretreatments.
• Grind weld beads to smooth, seamless transitions.
• Mask critical areas to protect finished surfaces during prep.
• Operate laser etch, leak-test, and robotic welding equipment.
• Obtain forklift license and operate forklift safely.
• Pack and ship finished goods meeting quality standards.
• Support other duties as assigned by Exhaust Manager.
