Job summary

Collins Aerospace in West Des Moines, IA is seeking a Mechanical Assembler I to assemble and inspect components, read blueprints, and ensure quality during production.

This onsite role requires a HS diploma or equivalent, willingness to work extended shifts, and collaboration across manufacturing teams. Training provided to develop basic assembly skills and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED; 2 years relevant experience if no diploma.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret drawings.
  • Good communication across levels and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to maintain and operate deburring tools and equipment.
  • Read and verify blueprints to ensure work is correct.
  • Accurately complete production documentation and labor transactions.
  • Follow EHS, Quality, and CI guidelines and procedures.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement and safety activities.
  • Work under close supervision and develop basic job skills.
  • Operate hand and electrical tools and measurement equipment.
  • Support overtime and nonstandard hours as needed.

What You Will Do:
  • Learn how to maintain and operate deburring tools.
  • Learn how to read blueprints in order to verify work was completed properly.
  • Accurately complete production documentation and performs necessary labor transactions.
  • Support and follow all rules/guidelines/standards set by EHS, Quality, and CI functions as set by your leader and position.
  • Actively participates in the Continuous Improvement process as well as safety related activities
  • Works under immediate supervision.
  • Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.
  • Develops basic job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks.
  • Tasks are routine/ repetitive in nature, requiring limited judgment.
  • Has little or no role in decision‑making.
  • Operates hand tools, electrical tools, hand cutters, measuring equipment and light equipment.
  • Over 40 hours is required as scheduled to meet business needs.
  • All other duties as assigned including working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business.
  • Willingness to work nonstandard hours.
  • Some Holiday hours may be required based on business need.

Qualifications:

You Must Have Typically requires HS Diploma. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience is required.

Qualifications We Prefer Manufacturing experience Manual dexterity to perform tasks associated with assembly and calibration. Previous experience reading, understanding and working off blueprints. Communication experience with all levels of employees and management.
