Job Location: BATAVIA, IL
Position Type: Seasonal
Salary Range: $15.00 - $17.00
Job Shift: 1st Shift
Description

At Flinn Scientific, our mission is to get students of all ages excited about science by making learning a fun, hands-on experience – and our Kit Assembly team is critical to helping us do that!

We're looking for a 1st shift (6:30 AM-3:00 PM) Material Handler Seasonal to join our warehouse team which is dedicated to moving material throughout our facility safely and efficiently. The role is expected to run through the end of May, with a potential for extension depending on business and operational needs.

We believe learning should be fun…shouldn’t work be fun too? We work hard to serve our customers – and it’s important to us to take time to have fun together as a team. Past events included a Kane County Cougars outing, beer on tap from a local brewery, and on-site ice cream truck.

Flinn is an E-Verify company – all candidates must pass pre-employment background screening and provide appropriate original I-9 documents on your first day.

BIG PICTURE VIEW

You will use a variety of equipment to move and put away products throughout our warehouse, such as a forklift, cart, or pallet jack. We use RF scanners to clock in and out of jobs, queue up picking paths, and pick product. You may be required to work occasional scheduled overtime and/or Saturdays during peak work periods.

We take our team’s safety very seriously, so you will be required to complete all required safety training (such as equipment driving tests) and demonstrate a commitment to safety through your behaviors and actions.

We want you to have a long and successful career with us, so you will have the opportunity to learn processes across our warehouse, including: Picking, Packing, Truck Loading, Stocking, Receiving, and Inventory Control.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
At your start-of-shift huddle, your supervisor and team lead will talk through the team’s work plan for the day and assign each person to a task. You may be asked to switch to different tasks throughout the day based on work progress and priority. Those tasks may include:

  1. Arranging stock in a specified sequence for put away by teammates.
  2. Sorting and placing items on racks/shelves, or in bins according to bar code storage system.
  3. Opening boxes and other containers to verify the product you are picking or putting away matches the product on shelf and is properly labeled.
  4. Using basic math skills to efficiently pick product – for example, if tasked with picking 1000 paper clips that are stored in boxes of 25, you would calculate how many boxes of 25 are required to get to 1000.
  5. Moving materials and items from production areas to storage or other locations.
  6. Using RF or voice-directed equipment to accurately record product locations and enter storage records.
  7. Maintaining inventory in an orderly and organized manner.
  8. Filling requests for items (verbal/written) and delivering them to appropriate locations.

WHAT YOU’RE GOOD AT, AND WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO YOU

  1. You’re committed to safety – your own and the safety of anyone else around you. The equipment you operate can seriously injure a person. You understand that, take it seriously, and demonstrate it in the way you operate equipment.
  2. You like variety – you have an ability to be flexible and transition between tasks or departments.
  3. You can read and comprehend written direction, like complex instructions, SOPs, and work orders.
  4. You understand inventory control systems: bar coding, bin locations, inventory moves.
  5. You’re efficient and reliable – your team can count on you to consistently meet productivity, attendance, and quality standards while working in a safe and organized manner.
  6. Deadline-oriented: you’re able to work effectively under narrow time limitations to produce accurate results, and manage your time efficiently.
  7. Team-player: you are patient when working with others and are open to learning from or teaching others.
  8. You’re proficient at basic mathematical skills in order to appropriately pick the right quantity of product efficiently - including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  9. Problem Solving – using initiative and judgment in dealing with workflow and uncertain situations. Take the "next logical safe step".
