Job summary

Urban Farmer is seeking a 1st Shift Maintenance Technician in Manteno, IL to keep our food manufacturing line running safely and efficiently. This role focuses on preventative maintenance and fast, reliable repair of critical equipment to maximize plant uptime.

You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on conveyors, ovens, mixers, and packaging machines, record repairs, train operators, and collaborate with engineering and production to improve reliability.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical training in industrial maintenance is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, and basic control systems.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sheaves, sprockets, chains, and gear reducers and proper alignment of these drive devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Forklift and scissor lift operation would be a plus.
  • Flexibility to work off-hours and respond to emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment to maximize uptime.

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuous operation of our food manufacturing facility. They are responsible for performing preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment to Maximize plant uptime and overall equipment availability. The Maintenance Technician must have a strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, food-safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety programs and procedures for maintenance activities.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on production equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on a wide range of manufacturing equipment, including conveyors, mixers, ovens, and packaging machines.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates records, documenting all repairs and maintenance activities.

Troubleshooting:

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production line stoppages, identifying the root causes and implementing corrective measures.
  • Analyze equipment malfunctions using a variety of tools and diagnostic equipment to minimize downtime.

Parts and Inventory Management:

  • Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring the availability of critical components.
  • Coordinate with the coordinate with the Storeroom clerk and planner to order necessary parts and supplies.
  • Work closely with production teams to understand their maintenance needs and priorities.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production personnel to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance processes.
  • Identify opportunities to increase uptime and increase equipment reliability.

Training and Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in maintenance techniques and technologies through training and self-study.
  • Train other maintenance staff and operators on equipment operation and basic maintenance tasks
