Job summary

Central Plains Steel is hiring a Laser Operator for first shift in Wichita, KS. You'll cut parts from sheet metal on one of four lasers and collaborate with programming and parts breakdown teams to meet safety, quality, productivity, and delivery goals. This role requires handling up to 100 lbs and performing QC inspections.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Must meet Level 4 Heavy Work capacity.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Adequate manual dexterity and coordination.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
• Basic measurement and arithmetic skills.
• Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
• Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively.

Responsibilities

• Review and follow blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Determine processing specifications (materials, sizes, tolerances, sequences).
• Ensure correct material for the job per work orders.
• Set up laser cutting unit, adjust speeds/feeds.
• Position work pieces for processing and operate laser machines as needed.
• Measure pieces with calipers, micrometers, scales and squares for conformance.
• Perform in-process and finished product quality inspections.
• Move material using forklift, side loader or crane.
• Adhere to safety and quality standards.
