Job summary

American Woodmark Corporation in Georgia is seeking a Lamination Forklift Operator at our Toccoa Plant. This hourly position supports lamination/warehouse operations, loading and unloading, and material handling to meet production goals.

You will operate a forklift, maintain safety standards, complete maintenance checks, enter data in Infinity software, and participate in continuous improvement activities. A forklift license and willingness to learn are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED preferred; in lieu of education, knowledge of plant processes considered.
• Manufacturing experience and willingness to learn to operate the position.
• Track record of teamwork and meeting performance expectations.
• Experience in a team environment with SQDC goals.
• Demonstrated behavior supporting CITE principles.
• Excellent communication skills; Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Lamination Forklift Operator

STATUS: Hourly

LOCATION: Toccoa Plant

DEPARTMENT: Lamination/Warehouse

REPORTS TO: Lamination/Warehouse Supervisor

PURPOSE/RESPONSIBILITY

To support the operations of the plant so that they can optimize the use of all resources in meeting and/or exceeding established plant goals and client/customer expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Follow all safety, quality, production, materials and plant policies and procedures.
2. Demonstrate behavior that aligns with plant expectations and CITE principles.
3. Successfully complete all training required for operation of assigned area.
4. Acquire and maintain an active AWC forklift license. Previous forklift experience a plus.
5. Operate the forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
6. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
7. Computer literate to include Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite of products in addition to software required of each trained role.
8. Communicate effectively with other team members in assigned department (lamination/warehouse team lead and utility tech, receiving forklift operator, and lamination line operator).
9. Read and process scheduling paperwork as needed.
10. Sort and identify wood parts by size and style of parts finish.
11. Inspect and verify material loads prior to loading at lamination line infeed or unloading from lamination line outfeed.
12. Perform quality checks and input data into Infinity software.
13. Accurately report material transactions, including scrap/salvage.
14. Ensure that all paperwork, documentation, reports and data entry are completed daily for assigned area.
15. Break down incoming bunks of raw material and hand strap bunks of finished material for transport and warehouse storage.
16. Create and print tickets for finished material.
17. Maintain warehouse integrity via transactional quality and correct placement and removal of material in the warehouse.
18. Troubleshoot and accurately report machine issues to maintenance and/or other support groups.
19. Complete PM’s for all equipment, tools and support equipment within assigned area.
20. Perform daily and periodic maintenance checks on the forklift and support the maintenance team during major repairs or scheduled preventive maintenance.
21. Responsible for keeping area to a standard that prepares it for next shift operations.
22. Maintain daily 5S/clean-up expectations for assigned area.
23. Maintain a safe work environment for self and others.
24. Participate on Kaizen, TPM and cross-functional team events as requested.
25. Cross train in other areas as requested.
26. Assist in all areas of departments as needed.
27. Train new or back-up operators using certified peer trainer tools and techniques.
28. Encourage team members and promote a positive attitude.
29. Available to work assigned schedule and shift hours as necessary to meet client/customer requirements.
30. Perform other tasks as directed by plant management.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• High School Diploma/ GED preferred. In lieu of education, extensive knowledge of all processes associated within the scope of the respective team may be considered.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must read, analyze, and interpret common business documents such as packing lists, manifests, bills of lading, pallet tickets, or job orders. Must communicate effectively with co-workers and customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquiries or complaints.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Use basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to such tasks as inventory control, material ordering, and job order verification.

REASONING SKILLS

Perceive problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an assorted number of tasks or instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, hear, talk, crouch, use stairs to access work area, stand, bend, reach and feel with hands and arms and walk for entirety of shift. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Typical indoor and outdoor manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection is required in areas of the production floor. Safety glasses are required at all times on the production floor. Other forms of PPE may be required depending on the work/task being performed. Occasional weekend or off-shift work required.
