Facilities Maintenance Technician
Location: Carol Stream, Illinois
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $25–$29 per hour

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing building systems, facility equipment, and production-support infrastructure at a Carol Stream manufacturing facility. This position helps ensure that the facility operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while supporting production and company operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and building systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other facility-related issues.
  • Inspect equipment and facility systems to identify potential problems before failures occur.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance activities and document work performed.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of utilities and facility infrastructure.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting, including motors, switches, controls, and electrical components.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical equipment, pumps, valves, piping, and related systems.
  • Assist with HVAC and building climate-control systems.
  • Perform general building maintenance, repairs, and upkeep as needed.
  • Work with outside contractors and service providers when specialized repairs or services are required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation.
  • Follow company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow good housekeeping practices.
  • Support continuous-improvement activities designed to improve equipment reliability, safety, and facility efficiency.
  • Assist production and other departments with maintenance-related needs.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, building maintenance, or a related field.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to use common hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and basic technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also working effectively with production and maintenance teams.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to safely perform physical maintenance work and work in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical school, industrial maintenance, electrical, HVAC, or mechanical training.
  • Experience in a food, ingredient, chemical, or manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Experience with HVAC, pumps, motors, conveyors, plumbing, compressed air, or other industrial utility systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical controls and motor-control systems.
  • Experience working with contractors and outside service providers.
Work Environment

This position works primarily in a manufacturing and facility environment. The technician may work around production equipment, mechanical systems, electrical equipment, noise, temperature variations, and other industrial conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and company safety procedures must be followed.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move maintenance materials and equipment within safe working limits.
  • Ability to work from ladders or elevated areas when required.
  • Ability to work safely around industrial equipment and facility systems.
