Job summary

The MHA (Mental Health Association) in West Springfield, MA is seeking a Residential Recovery Specialist for the 1st shift in the GRIT program. This full-time, on-site role supports residents in a trauma-informed environment, helping them follow individualized treatment plans and participate in recovery activities.

Responsibilities include daily living assistance, group facilitation, crisis intervention, transporting residents when needed, and documenting progress.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with safe and reliable vehicle and acceptable driving record.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; at least 18 years old.
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by homelessness, trauma, psychiatric diagnoses, and/or addiction preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong oral, written, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Ability to build supportive community in a diverse residential setting.
  • MAP, CPR, and First Aid certifications required and maintained.

Job description

1st Shift Direct Care On-site Division of Recovery Services (DRS) Full time West Springfield, Massachusetts, United States Position Summary The Residential Recovery Specialist (RRS) supports residents in a safe, structured, and trauma-informed environment. This role helps residents follow their individualized treatment plans, engages them in recovery and relapse prevention, and assists with daily living tasks such as meal prep, housekeeping, and transportation. The RRS plays a vital role in fostering a supportive, recovery-focused community.

Pay Rate: $19 - $21 an hour

Open Shifts: Sunday through Thursday 7am-3pm (40hrs); Tuesday through Saturday 7am-3pm (40hrs)

Key Responsibilities

About the GRIT Program

The GRIT program at MHA provides residential rehabilitation for individuals with substance use challenges and co-occurring mental health conditions. Residents participate in individualized counseling, recovery-focused programming, and community activities such as education, job training, or employment, all within a structured and supportive environment. With locations in Springfield (men's programs) and Holyoke (LGBTQIA+ program), GRIT combines the comforts of home with access to vital resources. A skilled, multidisciplinary team works closely with each resident to support recovery, personal growth, and long-term stability, while creating personalized aftercare plans for a successful return to the community.
