Job summary

Challenge Charter School in Far Rockaway, NY seeks a full-time Teaching Assistant to support teachers, prepare lesson plans, and monitor student progress across K-12 settings. You will assist with attendance, data tracking, and family communication while collaborating with the lead teacher to implement IEP and behavior plans.

You will lead guided reading sessions, participate in CST discussions, and help manage classroom activities, transitions, and safety during the school day.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• NYS Level 1 Teacher Assistant Certification required.
• Experience in urban school setting preferred.
• Flexible and team-oriented with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers by supporting scholars and preparing major subject area lesson plans.
• Attend faculty meetings and parent conferences; monitor attendance and records.
• Provide guided reading instruction and assist in Tier 2/3 intervention planning for scholars.
• Support with i-Ready data and progress updates; monitor progress weekly.
• Collaborate with lead teacher to ensure safe, organized classrooms and timely communication with families.
• Suppport CST meetings to discuss progress of Tier 3 scholars and document outcomes.
• Assist with grading and classroom tasks, reinforcing learning and behavior plans as needed.
