Job summary

Soulard School in St. Louis City is seeking a full-time 1st grade long-term substitute from early November 2026 through January 2027.

The role will be paired with an experienced classroom teacher in a co-teaching model, sharing planning and teaching duties. Responsibilities include collaborating with grade-level partners, developing and adapting lesson plans, and creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment for diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or equivalent.
• Elementary/early childhood teaching certificate preferred; substitute certificate required.
• Experience in elementary settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with grade level teaching partners to implement curriculum.
• Collaborate with current classroom teachers prior to long-term substitution.
• Develop lesson plans and modify accordingly based on student needs and interests.

Job description

The Soulard School, a small charter elementary school located in St. Louis City, is seeking a full-time 1st grade long-term sub from early November 2026 through January 2027. The school utilizes a co-teaching model - the sub will be paired with an experienced classroom teacher in the classroom together and share planning/teaching duties.

Major Responsibilities

• Collaborate with grade level teaching partners to implement curriculum based on student interests, student needs, and grade level standards.
• Collaborate with the current classroom teachers prior to beginning long-term substitute teaching.
• Develop lesson plans and modify accordingly based on student needs and interests.
• Create a positive educational distance learning environment for students.
• Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Participate in school events as specified in the teacher contract.

Education and Experience

• College degree and experience in an elementary setting preferred.
• Elementary or early childhood teaching certificate strongly preferred, substitute teaching certificate required.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Warm and supportive attitude and disposition toward working with children and their families.
• Reliable in attendance.
• Willing to accept supervision from administrators in order to improve work performance.
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Efficient use of technology and instructional learning platforms (Google docs, email)
• Physically able to perform the job of a teacher of young children.

General Pay and Contract Provisions

• 40 hour work week with hours between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm
• Hourly rate $24-$28

This position will start early November 2026 and run through mid-January 2027.
