Position: 1st Grade Teacher
Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The goal is to help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, capable, and responsible individuals.
Essential Functions:
- Develops and administers school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences to optimize available instruction time.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning, modifies instructional methods to meet individual needs, including students with special needs, and conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters as specified by laws and school policies.
- Continues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or conducting research to stay current in educational practices.
- Maintains accurate records of student activities, achievement, and attendance as per district procedures and laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct aligns with school standards and policies, establishing and maintaining appropriate behavior standards.
- Collaborates with other staff members to evaluate and improve curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Requisitions and maintains inventory of instructional materials and supplies.
- Supervises students during activities outside the classroom, including transportation.
- Administers standardized tests according to district testing programs.
- Develops lesson plans using the NIET Best Practice Instructional Rubric and participates in professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
- May participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs or academic teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
